Backbone Unveils Xbox-Edition Controller with Game Pass Bonus

Backbone Unveils Xbox-Edition Controller with Game Pass Bonus

Backbone Labs recently introduced the Backbone One - Xbox Edition, a new mobile gaming controller bundled with a free Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. This gamepad, designed with Xbox fans in mind, brings unique Xbox-specific features to the table.

Founded in 2018 by ex-Googler Maneet Khaira, Backbone Labs kicked off with its original Backbone One controller in October 2020. That launch was backed by investments from YouTubers like MrBeast, Typical Gamer, and Kwebbelkop, plus actor Ashton Kutcher and other contributors.

Based in Atherton, California, the company has now rolled out the Backbone One - Xbox Edition as the Xbox counterpart to its PlayStation model. Sporting a sleek, translucent dark green finish, this controller mirrors the Xbox layout and includes a one-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. It’s available for purchase as of March 27 through Backbone’s website and Best Buy, priced at $109.99—matching the cost of the standard Backbone One and PlayStation Edition.

The free Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription has some caveats. It’s exclusive to new subscribers, though “new” can mean anyone who hasn’t been subscribed recently—similar to the $1 Game Pass promo. The definition of “recent” varies, leaving eligibility unclear. Also, while the controller sells worldwide, the Ultimate subscription is only active in about 40 countries. The included promo code expires on March 31, 2028.
